Here is what I would like to do...
Is there anyway to have the hot spot take on a color I define? Basically I would rather color the area instead of using a image link
This is not possible with the current features of the module but I take notice for a future enhancement.
What you can do though, is create a new image to use for "mouseover". So when the visitor hovers an active area a new map is loaded that makes it more visible. You can see a sample using that approach here.
OK, I understand that process. Really what I would like to do now is this...
Use the area coordinates to go directly to information without having to refer to another image map and icon. Is there anyway I can do this? I prefer not to use an image icon, as I want to make a whole state one area and then refer that to some information for that state.
I'm sorry but this is not possible with the current module. An area is defined as a link to another map so it cannot directly link to information.
I'm working a new version of infomap, I'll evaluate if this can be added, but I cannot tell you now if it will be included.
Regarding the use of icons in areas: if you don't want an explicit icon to be used you can choose a 1pixel transparent image for the icon. This will produce the result you need.
